Religious Inertia: Can't we just get along?

Today I wanted to talk about organizational inertia.  Heck, I have a whole list of topics that I've put together for every time I thought of a topic.  Unfortunately, I've been so consumed with more data regarding 2012 and how it all jives way too well with prophecies in Islam.

I've received some very supporting feedback and I thank you all for that.  I hope to read more of your comments on a regular basis; especially since anti-inertia is still in its infancy.

A few facts ...
My non-practicing parents lead me to try things outside of Islam, literally pushing me to investigate why have I pursued it still.  Don't get me wrong, it wasn't doubt in my faith; rather, it was a question of "why do I believe so strongly in it?"  What exactly appeals to my logic.  Given my lifestyle, but specifically how viewed the other 2 religions as sisters or cousins of Islam, I had to learn more.  You spice that up with the socio-political and media coverage of Islam and I'm even more drawn to it.

A religion ought not be anything but a guide to one's direct relationship and accountability with God.
Read that one more time.

Religion, in my opinion any ways, should never be so called "organized."  It should never be about, and forgive me for saying this (I mean no disrespect), confessing to a human being.

Religion should also be very logical; granted, with a few leaps of faith, but still very logical.

Where am I going with all this?
You see, agnostic I get.  They're fed up with exactly those things I just mentioned.  Atheists, however, I don't.  Ultimately, we agree to disagree.  Here's the funny thing:  Islamically speaking, Atheisim will be the common belief before The Day of Judgment.  It's basically inevitable.  Personally, I've always steered away from inter-faith dialogue.  Emotions, attitudes and even egos get in the way.  Through this medium, however, I find it much easier to "talk" about it.  It's not, as Bruce Lee said, that "boards don't hit back."  Writring helps me formulate what I want to say, which then ensures that I deliver a more comprehensive and cohesive message ... It's a more accurate representation of what I'm trying to say; without the intimidation of the looks, attitudes, emotions, etc.

Of course, not that I'm qualitifed to conduct and/or participate in an interfaith dialogue; but what the heck, right?

I really don't want anti-inertia to be strictly about Islam, but like I said, this whole 2012 thing has got me thinking in a manner that urges me to spread the message, to warn folks.  And I don't feel that this applies only to Muslims.  If Christianity and Judaism are truly sister religions, then I owe them the message & warning just the same.

And I'm not trying to make a prediction here.  I've simply came across some weird-xxx coincidences that warrant all of this.

I really wished that folks would start from the beginning, identifying what we agree on and setting aside (for now at least) the things we don't.  Basically, I'm suggesting that we establish some foundation here.  For example:
  • Do you believe in God?  If yes, proceed to sub-points
    • Do you believe that He would ever mislead humans?
    • Do you believe that He Is The All-Powerful, and All-Knowing?
    • Does He know the past and the future & what it holds?
    • Do you believe that He had human-Messengers (aka Prophets) to instruct people and guide them?
      • Would He have hid anything from them or lied to them in any way?
As you can see, you start building these foundations one after the other.  Certain points, inevitably, will require immediate attention and cannot be put aside; but if progress can be made by putting them aside, then it's highly recommended.  Simple rules like this, I would think, might go a long way to stregthen relationships between all three sister/cousin religions.

Here's something else worth mentioning:
Why would the rules that applied as little as 100 years ago not apply now?
Because of technological, cultural or social advancement?  C'mon.  So for thousands of years, where they had less water, less accessibility to many of today's "necessities," and more of a need for things like food didn't stop them from excercising morality and humbleness in their demeanor, approach, attitudes and even clothing; and now we're saying that there is?  I'm not even talking about religion here.  I'm talking about our (human) attitudes towards one another, our communities, our neighbors and our families.  Atheists can have morality, and even God-consciousness; although they may not label it as such.  But call it what you will, the point is that in today's society (starting with Muslims) we forget some of our basics.  Just look at the US & World economies.  If some of the Executives would have excercised good moral judgment, do you honestly think we would be in this mess?  It's almost like we're begging for a reset button ... we're begging for something like what's predicted in 2012 to come and wipe a few slates clean, and perhaps even level a few playing grounds.

If it does happen, I have no doubt that it will be devastating with losses, chaos, etc.  All that in mind, and knowing that we all will incur a loss of some sort, a part of me is happy with this reset.  We all need to start thinking instead of depending on things to think for us.  Whether it be a cellphone that helps us remember a phone number (those born as late as the 1980's are likely to remember how they used to remember phone numbers of many family members & friends), the media telling us what we ought to know or something as simple as GPS for directions.   And I know I'm off on a tangent here, but come on ... I swear I have a friend that drove for a living and couldn't have, to save his own life, tell you north from south.

I personally welcome the reset; but crap, I'm so not ready for it (laughing).

Everything in my gut tells me that this "reset" is likely to happen in late 2012.  And it may not, but I believe that it will sooner or later.  And I know where I want to be when it does.  I just can't help but think in survivor mode:  What would I and my family absolutely need?  I'm thinking of some really sharp knives, water-purifying tablets, etc.  I even thought about starting a list.  I really did.  Every survivor list you look up talks about camping, or some sort of catastrophe with the hopes that electricity / power is coming back.  At minimum, they talk about being here in the US.   Like I said towards the end of this post, I really want to be in the Middle East.  It's simply where all the action will be, and I really don't want to be on this big chaotic island (the continent) away from the rest of humanity.  In those terms, what necessities will I need?  Can I ship a container ahead of time and fill it up with stuff that my family and I will need?

In the same post, I talked briefly about how there are, in Islam, small & major signs before The Day of Judgment.  There's one small sign, in particular, that hasn't come true yet; while all others have.  In short, it's the discovery of a mountain of gold at the mouth of the Eurphrates river.  Now, I'm saying this from memory and it is a very late (or early) hour, but know it's something close to that.  As Muslims, we're prohibited from touching this mountain of gold.  Yet, the prophecy says that of every family (Muslim or not) only one remains behind while the rest rush towards it.

Did you know that gold is amongst the strongst conductors of electricity?  Could it be possible that in an age post solar-flares, post-2012, when electricity and all things electronic are so scarce that it will be THE commodity to have?  Do you see where I'm going with this?  One can easily see that gold, without a doubt, will be the barter of choice.  Afterall, what currency will be worth its weight after all that?

In Islam, most major things happen on Fridays.  We believe that The Day of Judgment will happen on a Friday, for example.  And although the endn of the World is not what's predicted to happen in 2012, isn't it a bit chiling to know that the calculated date by several different & unrelated civilizations all point to December 21st, 2012 (the solstice); and it simply happens to be a .... Friday?  It may not be The Day of Judgment, but it will definitely be the beginning of the end.

OK.  You see, I really want to stop rambling about this, but way too many things are falling in place here.   And I'm hoping it's a case of the eye seeing what the eye wants to see type of @#$%; but I also fear that it's not, and that it's all real.

What's your take on all of this?  I know it's a bit out there, so please be respectfuly and let me know in the comments.
